Cupping

Cupping

Cupping Therapy is a Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment in which some special cups are placed on the skin to create suction due to the  vacuum in the cups. This vacuum in the cup is produced by the oxygen run out by the fire.

The suction can lift up the skin, muscle and tissues underneath the skin. So it can help to separate the layers of muscle, fascia and fat under the area. It can result the following effect:

It can stretch the skin, muscle fibers, tissues underneath the skin. Activate the blood circulation, lymphatic circulation and strengthen the activity of these tissues, increase the elasticity of skin and muscles, release the stiffness of the muscles.

It can produce the suction among the tissues and suck the cellular fluids from the deep to the surface thus can remove the toxins from the blood and deep tissues and help to refresh the body fluids, help to remove the dampness in the body and lose weight. Muscle pain and spasm is because the oxygen flow into the muscles impaired, lactic acid and toxins then produced to cause pain. When the toxins are moved to the surface of the skin, the body eliminates the toxins using superficial blood supply. Fresh blood is pulled into the area restoring proper blood flow. This improved blood flow helps to reduce inflammation, promotes cell repair and aids formation of new connective tissue.

How can Cupping help my health?
1. Cupping Reduces Pain and Restriction

Cupping is a great treatment for tight, sore muscles. By circulating blood flow, especially with deep injury when the blood may not be circulating. Old, un-oxygenated blood is circulated and replaced with fresh oxygenated blood. Cupping also helps relieve pain and discomfort caused by adhesions due to scarring.

2. Cupping Speeds up Healing time

It can get quicker results alongside acupuncture as it speeds up the body’s natural healing process.

3. Cupping is a Helpful Diagnostic Method

Cupping differentiates between muscle spasm, toxin build up or something else

4. Cupping is Beneficial to Recovery & Healing
Static blood contains toxins, lymph and cell debris. In Chinese Medicine we also talk about pathogenic factors such as Wind, Cold and Damp. Invigorating an area with fresh blood helps draw sticky fluids and pathogens out of the area and it is replaced with new blood containing nutrients that help recovery and healing.

Please note that the marks after treatment will be on the skin and will fade in 3-7 days.

The Meanings of the Marks

Blisters following the Cupping is usually seen in the case of excess damp/toxin in the body

Cupping induced blisters contain several proteins which relate to the activation of certain immune pathways including anti-oxidation, anti-apoptosis, tissue repairing and metabolic regulation. This can be the one of the mechanism of cupping treatment.
